    Hammerhead Sharks

    Family Name

    Sphyrnidae

    Size

    90cm - 600cm

    Characteristics

    • Laterally expanded, flattened head

    • Eyes located at tips of head

    • Mouth located on underside

    • First dorsal fin much larger than second

Hammerhead species have been over-exploited in many areas of the Indo-Pacific. Their fins are very popular for the shark fin trade.
